Today, the Government of Ethiopia held a high-level national media briefing in preparation for the upcoming Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), scheduled to take place from September 8โ€“10, 2025, in Addis Ababa. The summit will be held under the theme: โ€œAccelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing Africaโ€™s Resilient and Green Development.โ€

The summit is anchored on two strategic pillars:

  1. Showcasing Africa-led climate solutions, and
  2. Unlocking climate finance.

During the session, officials highlighted the vital role of media in shaping and amplifying Africaโ€™s climate narrative. Key storytelling priorities leading up to the summit include:

  • Promoting African-led climate solutions and innovation
  • Scaling nature-based solutions
  • Supporting adaptation and resilience strategies
  • Elevating the voices of women and youth
  • Advancing green jobs and industrialization
  • Advocating for equitable climate finance
  • Celebrating indigenous knowledge systems
  • Encouraging regional and global collaboration

The summit is expected to feature:

  • 56 high-level dialogues
  • 336 side events
  • 24 pavilions
  • Along with multiple exhibition booths

H.E. Seyoum Mekonnen, State Minister at the Ministry of Planning and Development, briefed media representatives on the Summitโ€™s thematic focus, anticipated outcomesโ€”including the Addis Ababa Declaration and Africa Flagship Program Reportsโ€”and coordination efforts led by:

  • The Steering Committee, chaired by the Office of the Prime Minister,
  • The National Coordination Committee, chaired by the Ministry of Planning and Development, and
  • Seven functional committees involving government institutions, the African Union Commission (AUC), and development partners.

Media professionals were called upon to play a central role in disseminating the Summitโ€™s messages and mobilizing public awareness and engagement across Africa.

With just weeks remaining, the path to ACS2 is well underway. The mediaโ€™s involvement in telling Africaโ€™s climate story is more important than ever.
