Ethiopia and Brazil held their third political consultation in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia.
State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Ambassador Mesganu Arga and Vice Minister for African & Middle East Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Ambassador Carlos Duarte, led the consultations.
The two sides held substantive and fruitful discussion on political, economic and social issues of mutual importance. They underscored the importance of working together to further strengthen ties in the economic sector, particularly on trade, investment, tourism and agricultural fields through joint efforts, cooperation and intivatives.
They also agreed to further consolidate existing cooperation in agricultural sector and fully exploit the available potential in tourism, people-to-people ties and sport sectors, among others.
On the occasion, Ambassador Mesganu briefed his Brazilian counterpart on the ongoing comprehensive political and economic reforms in Ethiopia. He also explained about the vast investment opportunities that Ethiopia offers as the result of the implementation of macro-economic reforms and called for the participation of investors from Brazil in the burgeoning Ethiopain economy.
The two sides further exchanged views on issues of importance in their respective regions and agreed to work closely to advance mutually important agendas such as peace and security, sustainable development, climate change, reform of UNSC, International financial architecture, at the global and BRICS platforms. They agreed that the Fourth Ethio-Brazilian Political Consultation will be held in Addis Ababa in 2026.
Ethiopia and Brazil enjoy longstanding historical friendly relations that span over seven decades and the State Visit by President Lula to Ethiopia last year has created an additional impetus in further consolidating the partnerships in bilateral, the BRICS platform and other multilateral arenas.
