The Ministry of Women and Social Affairs and the European Union agreed to work together a program to strengthen the institutions related to women affairs.
(February 20/2017) Women and Social Affairs Ministry senior executives had a discussion with European Union Ambassador Sophie Fromesberger on the main tasks of the ministry office aimed at strengthening cooperation.
During the discussion, Minister of Women and Social Affairs Ergoge Tesfaye (Dr) made a detailed statement regarding the social protection support provided by women, youth and children and vulnerable communities.
Among these, the main focus of the ministry office “Women in Agriculture” program, the issues of domestic displaced people and returnees and the work of youth personality building institutions all over Ethiopia have been highlighted.
Ambassador of the Union Sophie Fromesberger, on her part, appreciated the extent of the work being done in the ministry and also the major social protection programs that the Union supports (rural and urban development safety net) in addition to the issues of displaced people and migrant returnees, the Union will continue to support and promote programs that enhance women’s empowerment in different sectors.
In addition, during the discussion, it was stated that the long-prepared institutions that deal with women’s affairs, including the ministry office, women’s affairs offices, gender directorates and related institutions are in the process of strengthening the program as a result of a strong partnership with the union.
